In a way it’s magical enough, being a mountainous island halfway between Ireland and the British mainland.

And of course there’s many a century of history that evokes the magical, “little people” with a large presence, fairies that have more to say to you than any Prime Minister.

So comes along little houses, fairy-sized, placed here and there to provide just the magic you expect from a walk in the woods, a hike along the rugged coast.

Locals have been known to exclaim that they “add to the magic of our island.”

A group of Swedes have painstakingly built them to scale, they say.

The mystery may reside in why we find such power in small people and places. The staying power of all these fairies, these Hobbits, has outlasted many an empire.
